Our Aim
The Informative Headshop's aim is to provide simple, jargon free, non-biased, factual and easily accessible information about New Psychoactive Substances (also known as “legal highs”) across the UK.

The Psychoactive Substances Act 2016
The Psychoactive Substances Act 2016 came in to force on May 26th 2016 and makes the supply of any substance that creates a Psychoactive Effect a criminal offence with a maximum penalty of 7 years, with the exception of Food, Caffeine products, Nicotine products, Alcohol, Medicinal Products(such as paracetamol), and any drug already controlled under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.

What is a "Legal high"?
A "Legal high" or "New psychoactive substance" is a substance which has a physiological effect when ingested or otherwise introduced into the body, whose supply is prohibited by the psychoactive substances act 2016, but not the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. Before the psychoactive substances act 2016 new psychoactive substances were sold as "Plant Food", "Bath Salts", "Incense" or "Novelty Collectors Items" due to a legal loophole.

New Psychoactive Substances are a growing range of drugs that have been designed to mimic established illicit drugs, such as cannabis, diazepam, cocaine, ecstasy and LSD.

The legality of the possession of a New Psychoactive Substance is often unknown until the product is tested. the New Psychoactive Substance "Ivory Wave" for example has repeatedly shown to include drugs that are prohibited by the misuse of drugs act and therefore illegal to possess.

Active ingredients in packets
Please be aware that legal highs have been reported to contain different drugs than the drugs listed on the packet, which would effect a person in a different way, in some cases they have contained banned substances(class A/B/C drugs).
